Fakfak may be an area that is less familiar to many people, but in fact the name of the district as well as the city is in the province of West Papua and even includes the oldest city in Papua. Judging from a little history of Fakfak, in the period of Dutch rule, in 1898, the land of Papua was divided into two residencies or afdeeling, namely Afdeeling West en Zuid Nieuw Guinea in Fakfak and Afdeeling Noord Nieuw Guinea whose location was in Manokwari. Entered in 1952, the division into four afdeeling and Fakfak apparently became into the afdeeling of West Nieuw Guinea.
In 1961 there was another change which became the last change in which six afdeeling were created. There are three onderafdeeling under the supervision of Fakfak afdeeling, namely Mimika, Kaimana and Fakfak himself. Fakfak Regency was formed finally at the time after the 1969 law was issued. The law is about the autonomy arrangement in West Papua so that eventually the district was formed. Although not too popular, there are a number of tourist attractions in Fakfak that can be traced by tourists who have never set foot in West Papua.
Archaeological Site of Tapurarang
Tourists with a great curiosity about historical things, historical tours to the Archaeological Site of Tapurarang are the best to visit. Everything that can be found when entering this site includes red cliff painting. This painting is known to be a prehistoric relic and its shape is similar to hand painting.
In addition, what is unique about this site is a tradition where people who die then their bodies will be thrown into this cliff (not buried), so don’t be surprised if you find a human skull in the cliff area of this site. Another unique side that will be found in the paintings on the Tapurarang Archaeological Site is that the dyes used up to now are still very clear even though natural. Even it is known that the red color contained in this painting is exactly the same as human blood, so the painting is mentioned as a blood hand painting by local people.

Patimburak Old Mosque
In addition to natural and historical tourism, religious tourism can be done while in Fakfak by visiting a mosque whose construction has been more than 200 years ago. Known as the oldest mosque in Fakfak Regency, this building was built since 1870 and it was Abuhari Kilian who built this mosque with a height of up to 100 meters. The reason why this mosque needs to be visited is because it is built with a building that combines mosques and churches.
The good news is, when you arrive in the area where the mosque is located, you will also be able to see for yourself how the environment around the mosque highly upholds the family. This is evident from the presence of 35 family heads who more or less inhabit this area, but family ties with each other are very close.
